Saint-Roch Hospice Museum


Built in the XIIth century by the chapter of Saint-Cyr, the old Hothel-Dieu d'Issoudun has originaly opened its doors to offer a place to stay to lots of pilgrims and beggars for that time. In response to the teological vertue of charity, this establishment impersonate the love of God and the next to take care of the most destitute.
Through the centuries, his hospitality mission has evolved. From simple shelter for travelers, it has become a hospice then a hospital, firstly dedicated to elders, sick and feeders. This transformation shows the continious adaptation of the building to the need of the community.
Today, by visiting this old Hotel-Dieu, you will dive into a rich history of solidarity and dévotement, where each stone witness centuries of heal given to the most vulnerable.

From the XIIIth century, l'Hôtel-Dieu Saint-Roch had beneficiated from many legacies, donations and privilégiés, especially from the lords.
From Issoudun and the French Kings. Those generous donations allows today a rich collection in the hospice, allowing to extend and level up the services.
