"La Cause des Pierres"

Lightening of the Monument

Meeting with Yann Kersalé, Light artist, creator of the route geopoetic of Issoudun

What is a Geopoetic route ?

This is an invitation to a walk, to enjoy the night, the twilight or the rising to walk on numerous "objects" and "subjects" which makes, for me, the center of the city.

What inspired me for Â« La Cause des Pierres », the geopoetic route of Issoudun, is the remarquable many "objects". There are the monuments obviously : lla Tour Blanche, the city hall, le beffroi, and the ancient part of the museum de l’Hospice Saint-Roch

But what comes to me at first is what links all those monuments. It's from there which came the route, even if there is no specefic way to do it !

If we start at the  place du 10 Juin 1944, it is at first outstanding because it is the animation place of the market, with it's trees and next to it the Beffroi and the Tour Blanche, that we see further on. By alking under the ramparts which are almost non-present while still being here we abviously pass by the old city hall building, but also the modern part of the building.

By going down the roads, we discover many point of view, which makes us go to the museum. There we can find at the same time the modern and historical building of l’Hospice Saint-Roch. And obviously the river.

The route is the idea of a sort of a "Map of Tenderness" in the city, scavanger hunts from our childhood, to go look for differents pieces which in my point of view, are remaquable and seen in Issoudun.

Like a painter, do you have a color palette ?

Blue, green and white : those are the colors I chose for Issoudun. I usually use blue to give deepness, to give hollow. It's a strategy compared with the white light, which comes to highlight many architectural elements. There is also lots of vegetation in this route, so I used some blue and green mixed toghether to have a camaïeu.

Is it also an everyday lightening ?

Yes, it is almost the opposite of an eventfull lightening which works only at certain times. This route, is really an everyday lightening, for the residents of Issoudun, of the tourists, family or friends. And moreover for the visitors, french or foreigners who pass by.
