Discover the House of Issoudun and the Berry: A Historical Treasure with a Thousand and One Lives

A beautiful half-timbered house
Immerse yourself in the fascinating history of our tourist office, a 15th-century house listed as a historic monument. This former timber-framed building has served several purposes: as a blacksmith's shop, armory, locksmith's, and drugstore, before becoming the heart of our beautiful city's tourist reception.
Looking up, you'll discover the unique weathervane that adorns our office: Soldier Beaujon. This small Napoleonic guard, 110 cm tall but weighing 80 kg, was installed in 1816 by a wealthy merchant from Issoudun on the block of houses opposite. Its fate has been eventful: stolen in 2008, recovered by the police in 2009, sold and repurchased by the town in 2010. After a public consultation, it was decided to install it on the Maison d'Issoudun et du Berry, where it now watches over the town with its old-world charm.
Come explore this place steeped in history and let yourself be told about its thousand and one lives.
