(1330 - 1376)

A legendary figure of the Hundred Years' War, Edward of Woodstock, better known as the Black Prince, left his mark on Issoudun. The son of King Edward III of England, this formidable warlord led several military campaigns in France in the 14th century.

In 1356, after his victory at Poitiers, where he captured King John II the Good, the Black Prince continued his expeditions in Berry. It was in this context that Issoudun suffered his assaults. The city, then fortified, found itself under threat from English troops. Although the city resisted, this episode illustrates the tensions and ravages of war in the region.

Even today, the memory of the Black Prince remains in local history, recalling the strategic role of Issoudun at the heart of medieval conflicts.
