Located in the heart of the Champagne berrichonne, at only 3,5 km north-west to Issoudun, le Bois du Roi is a little forest massif of 350 hectares which shows unsuspected treasure. Delimited in the south by the sèche du Bénitier valley, this forest, looking oxtraordinary, hides an exceptional biodiversity .
Until the beginning of the XXth century, the slopes of the sèche du Bénitier valley sheltered a popular vineyard. Unfortunatly, the phylloxera has killed those vineyard, transforming the local landscape. Today, the vineyard its place to calcareous lawn, a natural habitat which helps the grow of remarquable flora.
Le Bois du Roi is quite known for its calcareous lawn which host around twenty different orchid species. That exceptional floral diversity and nature lovers, came to admire those delicate and colorfull flowers that makes that ecosystem so rich.
By walking in le Bois du Roi, you will discover a natural preserved space, silent witness of the local history and refuge for a precious biodiversity. This site is THE place for hikes and botanical exploration, offering an immersive experience in the heart of the berrichone nature.
