Auguste Borget


(1808 - 1877)
Born on the 28th august 1808, Auguste Borget is a painter, drawer and adventurer who's talent stoud out farther than Issoudun's borders. If he grows up in Issoudun, it's in Paris that he masters his art with the painter marine Théodore Gudin, before dedicating to his passions like travels and painting all time.
Unlike other painter of that time, Borget doesn't stops at just painting european landscape . In 1836, he undertakes a world tour that leds him to the Americas, then Asia, especially China, before going to Maurice isle and other exotic territories. He immortalizes in his travel books fascinating landscape and local every-day life, offering a rare witness of cultures he discovers.
His tay in Cina, and specifically in Hong-Kong, is one of the most remarkable. He drew drawings and aquarelles, that are today considered as precious documents on XIXth century in Hong-Kong.
Despites numerous adventures, Auguste Borget stays deeply attached to Issoudun. He comes back regurlaly and he finds inspiration in berrichon landscapes, he draws them with the same sensibilities that his travel drawings. Today he is knonw to be the biggest artistic ambassador of Issoudun, and some of his works are kept in local collections.
Auguste Borget passed away on the 25th october 1877, letting behind him an unique artistic legacy, that mix exotism of his travels and sweetness of his natal land.
